I’m really bummed out that crossovers are killing the wagon.

Kinja'd!!!

I come from a big station wagon family. I’m 18 and moving out next year, and currently my family collectively owns 5 cars, 3 of which are station wagons. The other two are my Miata and my dads FR-S. So I have a soft spot for wagons! I basically grew up in the back of Volvo Wagons, just like plenty of other kids! But now parents are buying Crossovers and SUV’s. I mean I know the wagon is still somewhat prevalent. Volvo has the V60, Mercedes has the E Class wagon, and a few others. But outside of America they get tons of awesome wagons!

Honestly people, why buy a CX-5 when you could have a Mazda 6 wagon? Oh wait it’s because we don’t get the wagon in America because nobody wants a wagon anymore. We just want lifted hatchbacks. Why? Why do we want these bland, CVT riddled, fake off road machines? I miss the station wagon, and I hope it makes a comeback.

A picture of my personal favorite family wagon for your time. (Jealous of my dad)

EDIT: Tell me about your favorite wagon stories. Because wagons are the best!

Huh? Wagon? No, I grew up in sedans, like this A3 Jetta

My first car was a Mazda Protege 5. I loved it. When I have a need for more space in my car, I’ll be in a allroad/3er wagon.

If you were older, you’d be bummed that video killed the radio star.

But I like wagons too!

I like old Jettas. My mom had a Jetta Trek edition. It never worked, but they’re fun cars from what I hear!

Counterpoint: Crossovers are not only saving wagons, they are the evolution of wagons. Hatchbacks can have up to 5 doors, but are necessarily smaller than a wagon - CUVs have a larger cargo area than a hatchback (compare a Golf with a Tiguan). The cargo volume in the back of a modern CUV is nowhere near Buick Roadmaster levels, but nobody really needs it to be either. CUVs are a sweet spot in cargo capacity between wagon and hatchback, but they’re slowly getting bigger. Also, they started as a car-based, SUV-like design, but they’re becoming less and less like SUVs and more like... wagons.

I can’t hate on crossovers too much, as they serve a purpose. The average age in the US is getting ever older, and crossovers offer an easier ingress/egress than lower sitting cars or more traditional higher riding SUV’s. Yet I won’t pretend that a Nissan Rogue is on the same level as a Toyota 4Runner

That said, I wouldn’t spend my money on nearly any crossover.

My Valium had wagons growing up, after the big dapdhe van we had died, we got a Buick Century, then a green Sable wagon. I love people the wagons, I always ran so I could get in the back rear facing seat, like the opposite of calling shot guns lol. I was majorly bummed when I was about 9 and my parents bought a Taurus sedan. I had to go from sitting in the rear facing seats to sitting up front in between my parents. It was crushing. My mom likes wagons though after the Taurus she had a manual Focus ZTW which has free 2.3l Zetec. IT was actually a pretty cool car.
